Afrobeats singer Joeboy has revealed that he prefers early marriage, saying he would love to get married in his 20s and have teenage children by the time he turns 40.
The 29-year-old singer made this known during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, where he shared his thoughts on marriage and family life.
Joeboy said his interest in early marriage was strengthened after watching an interview with Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson, who reportedly expressed regret about not getting married earlier despite being known as a ladies’ man.
“I saw an interview of Timini. He’s like the ideal playboy; almost all the girls claim to love him, and he was like, he wished he got married early. I was like, if you’re a playboy and you can say this, that means marrying early might actually be nice.”
The singer said marrying someone he genuinely loves and having children early would be appealing to him.
“But marrying early to someone who you genuinely love is going to be cute. Being 40 and having a 16-year-old kid is cute.”
Joeboy, however, stressed that marriage should not be based on societal pressure or timing, but on finding the right person and genuinely loving them.
“But marriage is not really about whenever it feels cool. If it just feels right to you and you love the person, do it.”
He said he would personally prefer to settle down early but would keep his marriage away from the public if he got married now.
“Personally, I would rather get married early. But if I get married right now, nobody is going to know.”
Joeboy joked that the public might only discover he is married after he has already started a family.
“Maybe when I have like three kids, people will now find out that Joeboy has a whole family somewhere.”
